EPISODE 4

Manitoba

Watch NOW

Manitoba, smack dab in the middle of Canada, is Jon’s home province.

Jon goes back to his Prairies roots as he RV’s to the province that raised him - Manitoba. Diversity Drum Circles gives Jon a lesson on how not only “Canada’s Heart Beats”, but how he can drum to his very own. Everyone is invited to this drum circle and the same inclusiveness goes for Nonsuch Brewing Co., which Jon visits in Winnipeg. Outside of the city, Jon cowboys it up at Birds Hill Park Ranch and takes time to reflect on his journey with his trusty SUP at Pinawa Dam Provincial Heritage Park.

From Jon’s Journal…

“Manitoba is truly a place to explore. It’s a place where English, French and Indigenous history and culture collide.”

Nonsuch Brewing Co.

A cold brew at Nonsuch Brewing serves a different sliver of the Winnipeg population and that’s perfect, because as is the case with beer, not every establishment can cater to the masses; however, when one finds themselves craving something a little outside the main-stream, places like the Nonsuch are the gems that make looking, worthwhile!

What’s in a name?

“I grew up coming to the big city here in Manitoba and visiting the Museum of Natural History. In there, my favourite part was always going on the old wooden ship - the Nonsuch. Matthew Sabourin, owner of Nonsuch Brewing explains the significance in giving his brewery a historical name.”

I found my rhythm in a drumming circle

“We made some sweet, sweet noise in Birds HIll Provincial Park, located in the Boreal Plains ecozone. Carol Edwards, the owner of Diversity Drum Circles, helped me find my rhythm…but I’d like to think of it more as me drumming to my own beat!”

Slow and steady wins the race

“Horseback riding is a great way to experience our natural surroundings without the constant drone of an engine propelling you through mother nature's bountiful beauty. I slowed it down a bit and let my soul soak it all up at Birds Hill Park Ranch.”
