Quebec

Watch NOW

A taste of Europe close to home

Jon brushes up on his French as his RV takes him to his next destination - Quebec City. He visits La Souche Microbrasserie and discovers its “roots”, has some seriously old cheese (don’t worry - the delicious kind), and learns about the history of Quebec’s delicacies at both Île d'Orléans and his campsite at Le parc national de la Jacques-Cartier. Jon goes out with a bang as he bids adieu to La Belle Province.

From Jon’s Journal…

“I’ve been to Quebec City more times than I’ve been to any city east of Toronto, and it continues to amaze me.”

La Souche Microbrasserie

‘La Souche’, meaning ‘roots’, ‘forests’, and ‘woods’ sums up what this micro-brewery is inspired by. And we gotta say, it has a lot in common with RVing! La Souche Stoneham is surrounded by nature and doesn’t take it for granted. Their gatherers find items in the brewery’s surrounding forests and fields to use in their products - which makes up for about 95% of their ingredients. Every season has something to offer La Souche, which in turn has something to offer their customers.

“We do with what we have - and we do it very well.”

“I headed to La Souche, a microbrewery just north of Quebec City to meet with Co-founder, Antoine Bernatchez, to talk about biodiversity over a pint … or two. La Souche Brewery is the kind of place that speaks to my heart. The owner has a strong connection to hyper local ingredients and local ataractic talents to breathe fresh life into his age-old practice of creating community out of local ingredients, one pint at a time.”

An experience rooted in history

“The walled city of Old Quebec is straight out of Old Europe! You are transported back in time to a world that set the stage for Canada to become the great nation that it is today. From the Plains of Abraham to the heritage buildings in Old Quebec, it’s an experience rooted in history.”

I brushed up on my French (and food) knowledge

“I met with food columnist Allison Van Rassel at my campsite to chat about terroir and eating local in Quebec. We cooked old school - over an open fire, just the way nature intended. Cheese and strawberries from Les Fromages de l'isle d'Orléans along with great tasting beer from La Souche and great company…Bon appétit et santé!”
